Community donates food, cash to benefit Tamaqua pantries

What a day at Boyer’s Market in Tamaqua.

Generous shoppers donated 85 bags of groceries and enough cash to purchase 72 additional cases of food during Tuesday’s Feed A Family Day, providing a significant boost to the 15th annual Tamaqua Area Hunger Campaign.

The groceries and purchased food are being distributed to four local church food pantries to help neighbors facing food insecurity.

“Every bag makes a difference, and seeing 85 bags donated in one day tells you how much this community cares,” volunteer Judy Hoppes said. “People are stepping up to help their neighbors, and we’re grateful for every contribution.”

Volunteer Dan Odorizzi emphasized that cash donations are just as important as grocery bags.

“The money donated allowed us to purchase 72 cases of food in addition to the groceries shoppers purchased,” Odorizzi said. “That’s a tremendous amount of food going to local pantries that need it. Every dollar helps us stretch the community’s generosity even further.”

Glenn Fritzinger, another campaign volunteer, encouraged residents to keep the momentum going.

“We’ve seen what Tamaqua can accomplish when people work together,” Fritzinger said. “We’ll be back at Boyer’s this Sunday, and we hope shoppers will consider picking up a Feed A Family bag or making a donation. Together, we can help keep our local food pantries stocked for families who need them.”

Hunger campaign volunteers will return to Boyer’s Market on Sunday to collect additional Feed A Family bags and monetary donations. Shoppers can purchase a grocery bag filled with food for local pantries or contribute cash to help purchase food in bulk.

The Tamaqua Area Hunger Campaign supports four local food pantries and one baby food ministry, bringing churches, businesses, organizations and residents together to address hunger in the community.
