The Schuylkill County Conservancy is offering two events Saturday to help people get outdoors, explore and learn more about the beauty of the surroundings in Schuylkill County.
A bird walk at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville, sponsored by the conservancy’s Birds 4 Conservation Program, will begin at 8 a.m. from the park’s visitor parking lot.
Avid birder Tonia Jordan will lead the walk and share helpful information about identifying local and migratory songbirds by sight, song, habitat and behavior. Participants are encouraged to bring binoculars.
The walk is not pet-friendly and will be held shine only. Registration is required by calling Robin at 570-900-3336.
A woodland field visit to Jay Klebe’s property at 107 Second Mountain Road near Pine Grove will be held Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m.
Participants will see the considerations a new woodland owner faces when deciding how to care for their property. They will be able to observe real time dialogue between forest resource professionals and the landowner as they walk the property together.
The tour will highlight timber and forest health, wildlife habitat, water resources and more, and is perfect for new woodland owners, experienced landowners seeking fresh ideas for sustainable management, scouts working on forestry merit badges and anyone interested in forest stewardship.
The tour will be led by the conservancy’s Woodland Stewardship Committee and Will Thomas, service forester with the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry.
