Pennsylvania Highway Safety Network has designated Sept. 20-26 as Child Safety Week.

The focus is on child restraint systems and seat belt enforcement.

Lehighton Borough Police Department will conduct enforcement operations this coming week and focus on vehicles transporting children surrounding its local school buildings.

That will include ensuring children are properly restrained in the correct seat type for their age, weight and height, and that seat belts are used correctly.

Lehighton police will be present at Walmart in Lehighton, and assist with a “Car Seat Safety Check” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

The free event is being hosted by Kid Zone, and walk-ins are welcome.

Lehighton police department does have a certified child restraint Systems technician, and offers the service to borough residents.
