Weissport still seeking part-time secretary, tax collector

Personnel continues to dominate discussion in Weissport as the borough seeks a secretary and a tax collector.

Council held a shortened general meeting on Monday evening. On the agenda was a motion to appoint and bond a new secretary. That was postponed.

“The candidate that was going to be coming to this meeting has backed out,” Council Member Jennifer Ketchledge reported. “So we will need to repost the position.”

Cheryl Miller left the position in July.

The borough is accepting applications for the position of Secretary/Treasurer.

This is a key administrative role responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Borough office and assisting Borough Council in carrying out its duties.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: preparing agendas, minutes, and correspondence for Borough Council, maintaining official borough records and files, managing borough finances, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, audits and budget preparation, and more.

This is a part-time position. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and references to:

Borough of Weissport, Attn: Borough Council, 440 Allen St, Weissport PA 18235

Call 610-377-5606 for more information.

Council is not accepting emails due to not being able to log into the email account.

The borough has been without a tax collector since January when Lynette Moyer resigned,

Former Weissport Borough Council member Shelley Fisher resigned from borough council and from the position of vice president at the Feb. 16 meeting in order to take over the position of tax collector.

But she withdrew her application in March.

The Carbon County Treasurer, Kevin Zelienka, will be collecting Weissport’s real estate taxes for the calendar year 2026. The Lehighton Area School District will collect the school taxes for Weissport.

Applicants for tax collector must be residents of Weissport Borough, be registered to vote, and be bondable. Call 610-377-5606.
