Two Reading men who fled from state police troopers following a crash on the Quakake Road in Packer Township on Aug. 7 were committed to the Carbon County Prison.

Magisterial District Judge Joseph Homanko Jr. set $250,000 cash bail for Christopher Martinez, 35. His accomplice, Daniel Lopez Jr., is in jail on $150,000 cash bail.

State police said they were conducting a narcotics investigation into Martinez and learned that he would be dropping off drugs in Packer Township. Police spotted the vehicle and began to follow it as it traveled at a high rate of speed.

When troopers activated their emergency lights, the vehicle, driven by Lopez, fled before traveling off the road and into a field. Police said both men ran away.

Inside the vehicle, troopers spotted suspected methamphetamine and suboxone strips.

Police later received a report of two “suspicious” men walking on Route 93 toward Beaver Meadows. The men were taken into custody and identified as Martinez and Lopez.

Lopez told police that during the pursuit, Martinez threw a package of methamphetamine out the window.

Both men face charges of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, fleeing or attempting to elude officer, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless diving, careless driving, evading arrest on foot and driving violations.
