Meetings to plan for Coaldale’s 200th anniversary are now being held on a regular basis.

Council President Rosie Hoben said they are held at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month at borough hall.

“We are trying to put something together,” Hoben said of an anniversary celebration in 2027.

She’s hoping to see residents attend the meetings.

“The public is invited, so bring your ideas,” she said.

Hoban also read from a letter from Coaldale Fire Department Chief Steve Polischak asking for permission to temporarily close a portion of West High Street for a Sept. 12 parade during the upcoming Coal Crackin’ Rock the Block. Council gave its permission.

The parade is one part of the Block Party, which will be held from Sept. 11 to 13 and feature entertainment, food and beverages. As for the parade, awards will be presented in multiple apparatus categories.

Also during the meeting, dates for upcoming community yard sales were set for Aug. 29 and 30 and Sept. 26 and 27. A date for the fall community yard sale and cleanup will be announced at a later time.

Also in her report to council, Hoben asked residents who cut grass to remove clippings from streets.

When the grass gets wet, she said, it can become slippery and dangerous to motorcyclists and bicyclists.

“It can become a hazard,” she said.
