David F. McAndrew of 138 E. Hazard St., Summit Hill, has been approved by the Jim Thorpe Area School District Board of Education for employment as a reading specialist.

His salary was set at $22,200, according to Step 10 (Master’s Degree) of the district’s teacher salary schedule.

John Gunsser, chairman of the Policy, Personnel and Curriculum Committee, recommended McAndrew during Monday night’s meeting in L.B. Morris Elementary School, Jim Thorpe.

Director John Mulligan cast the lone vote of opposition, saying he believed a local applicant for the job should have been hired.

McAndrew is a member of the Tamaqua Area High School faculty and is married to the former Margaret McElmoyle, R.N., of Jim Thorpe, a member of the nursing staff at the Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton.
