Nick’s Lake House hosted the fifth annual Parade of Boats on Sunday to benefit the Lake Harmony Rescue Squad and Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company.

A tricky tray included baskets donated by local businesses. Choice of prizes included blankets, wine packages and gift certificates to local restaurants. A 50/50 raffle was also held. Corn on the cob, hot dogs and burgers were ready to purchase outside.

Debbie and Marty Kelly have been involved with the Rescue Squad and Fire Company for seven years since seeing the trucks near their house in Lake Harmony. Prior to retiring here from New Jersey, Marty was a firefighter for 57 years, while Debbie spent 30 years with EMS. They manned the booth selling Lake Harmony Rescue Squad T-shirts.

Mystery City entertained the crowd on the deck by the water with their classic rock music tribute. Aerosmith’s “Sweet Emotion” and Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak” had everyone singing along.

The Bezics from Northampton took the hour ride to Nick’s to “see what it’s all about.” Two-year-old Rocco and Rory, 4, enjoyed playing in the water while waiting for the boat parade to begin.

Beverly O’Brien, Kingston, took off from work to join the fun. “I come back every year because of all the people I meet and make new friends,” she said.

Larry Potts and his family enjoyed the view from their docked pontoon. Potts said, “I live here and like to attend special events, especially charity events.”

Nick’s owner Louis Pantages looked for “impartial customers to be the judges” and handed each an order pad to take notes.

Judging the boats were Anne Frey, Nina Bonus and Kimberly Ybarra. Ybarra said, “I know nobody, so I’m the most impartial.” The three judges sat on a boat by the dock for a good view.

Several boats were decorated with a patriotic theme. Nick’s owner Cindy Pantages was aboard the “Harmony Belle,” which took first place.

A “Jurassic Park” boat had a moving dinosaur up front. That captured second place. Other boats included a “Fly Eagles Fly,” football theme and a colorful Lorax theme.

Coming in third was an M&M race car themed boat.

First place won $500, with second place getting $300 and third place garnering $150.
