Families, advocates, recovery organizations, behavioral health professionals and community members from across Pennsylvania will come together on Saturday for the second annual “The Faces of Tragedy: Their Voices Live On,” a free community remembrance and awareness gathering dedicated to honoring lives lost to substance-related tragedies and suicide while promoting hope, recovery, education, prevention and healing.

The event will be held at Bubeck Park (Stoyer’s Dam), Schuylkill Haven. The community resource fair opens at noon, followed by the speaking portion of the event beginning at 1 p.m.

Founded by Aimee Teel following the death of her 25-year-old son, Tomasso Dino, from illicit substance poisoning in February 2024, the event was created to ensure that those lost are remembered not by how they died, but by the lives they lived and the love they continue to inspire.

Featured speakers will include state Sen. David Argall, state Rep. Jamie Barton, family members who have experienced loss, individuals in recovery, behavioral health professionals and community advocates, each sharing messages of remembrance, hope, prevention and recovery.

The event will feature:

• The Reading of Names ceremony, honoring loved ones lost to substance-related tragedies and suicide.

• The Journey Not Walked, a memorial shoe display honoring lives lost to substance-related tragedies and suicide. Each pair of shoes represents a life remembered.

• Free Narcan distribution.

An awareness billboard featuring photographs of people whose lives were lost to the substance crisis will be displayed through Sept. 1 along Route 61 southbound near Advance Auto Parts at the Cressona Mall.

Bearing a powerful message — “Their Absence Screams. Are You Listening?” — the billboard serves as both a deeply personal public tribute to those lost and an urgent call to action.
