The Panther Valley School District began interviews for a new supervisor of special education, its superintendent said following a special meeting last week.

The school board on Wednesday accepted the resignation of Gregory Kosciolek, who took a similar position with the intermediate unit, Superintendent Dave McAndrew said.

The district began interviewing for a replacement immediately, he said. Kosciolek’s resignation was effective today.

The board also accepted the resignation of Kristin Powis, a seventh-grade science teacher, effective June 3.

The board also hired an elementary teacher and a guidance counselor for the 2026-27 school year at the special meeting, he said.

Madison Biechy will serve as a guidance counselor at the intermediate school, and Jenna Cimino will serve as a second-grade teacher at the elementary school. Both were hired at $51,236 a year per the union contract.

In other business, the board approved:

• A memorandum of understanding with the Lehighton Area School District to loan or share maintenance equipment, effective Aug. 5.

• A quote from Bracalente Construction Inc. for the parking lot milling project at a cost of $27,984.

• Booster clubs for softball and baseball for the 2026-27 school year.

• Fall workers for 2026-27 at $30 an event.

• A facilities use agreement pricing per event for Level IV Private Interest Group, doubling the price of the previous agreement.

• A contract with Behavioral Health Associates for the 2026-27 school year, subsequent school years, and extending through written cancellation by either party.

• Mentors Victoria Yazwinsky and Danielle Bale for 2026-27 per union contract.

• Instructional coaches for 2026-27 school year at $40 an hour not to exceed 10 hours: Maria Wozniak, Julie Gower and Amber Hobbs.

• Reappoint Kevin O’Brien as junior-senior high school truant officer/disciplinarian for 2026-27 school year at a salary of $44,200 per memorandum of understanding between O’Brien and school district.

• A memorandum of understanding with Victoria Smith, health services nurse, at the elementary school for 2026-27 school year at a salary of $51,680.

• Reappoint Richard Holota as school police officer at a rate of $30.50 an hour for 2026-27 school year and approve SPO agreement with district.

• Memorandums of understanding with occupational therapists Abigail McGinley and Sarah Hartung for the 2026-27 school year.

• Transfers: Diane Buchman, grade three to Title I; and Kristina Gilbert, grade two to grade three.
