Summit Hill Borough officials learned last night the proposed project of installing lights at the Ginter Stadium in the town, to be used strictly for the softball playing area, has been turned down by the PA Department of Community Affairs.

Thomas A. Shopay, recreation and parks adviser for the department, said the proposed lighting design has been rejected because “the use of the interior of the track would be limited because of the location of the light stands.”

The determination was met with displeasure by Councilman Philip Shelton, chairman of the borough’s recreation committee, who said, “The way they want it, it would be a major league ballpark; this town doesn’t need that!”
