The Valor Clinic Foundation will hold a Stand Down in Lansford from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Aug. 15 at the St. Luke’s Medical Center parking lot, 100 W. Patterson St.

“I established the event in Lansford and have been coordinating it in Lansford for about 10 years now, and I believe it is the most well attended stand down,” said Christine LeClair, director at Carbon County Veterans Affairs.

This stand down in Lansford will also include resources for area students.

“The Marian Catholic Relief Services Club will be distributing bookbags and school supplies, while supplies last. Please note that the student must be present in order to receive supplies. The Catholic Charities food truck will be there to serve hot meals and we’re welcoming many other community resources,” LeClair noted.

The Valor Clinic Foundation holds several Stand Downs each month:

• In Hazleton on the first Sunday of February, April, June, August, October, and December.

• In East Stroudsburg the second Sunday of each month.

• In Lansford on the third Saturday of April, August, and November.

• The cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton on the fourth Saturday of each month.

These events are for veterans and for other citizens in need.

A stand down for veterans only is held in Lehighton on the fourth Wednesday of each month.

“In addition to clothing, nonperishables, and a hot meal, we aim to connect individuals who may be experiencing a hard time with local resources, such as CMPMHDS, Drug and Alcohol, St. Luke’s, school liaisons and more,” LeClair added. “There is a large number of people in the area who do not have transportation, so it is important that events like this meet people where they are.”
