Lehighton plans to unveil its 250th Mosaic Tile Mural project at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Caboose on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

The Lehighton Downtown Initiative received a Mosaic Mural Grant for a 7-foot by 12-foot Mosaic Mural from America250PA and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful.

The LDI was only one of seven grants awarded throughout Pennsylvania, according to Bambi Elsasser, community operations director, LDI.

Elsasser noted they held numerous painting sessions for the community and local businesses to come out and paint 200 6” x 6” Mosaic Tiles.

“The tiles have been secured following a pattern to portray the American Flag with an Eagle in the front,” Elsasser said. “The mural will be free standing and be part of the completed landscaping with our Caboose Project.

Elsasser said they are very proud to be unveiling the Mosaic Tile project.

“We would like to thank everyone that painted tiles and joined in this fun community project,” she said. “We hope to see you on Tuesday for the unveiling.

Last month, Lehighton Borough Council unanimously agreed to place the Mosaic Mural in the area of the Caboose on Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.

Borough Mayor Ryan Saunders said at that time it will tie itself into the Trailhead Beautification Project.

Also last month, council agreed to have LDI apply for the Trailhead Beautification Grant.

In June, the Lehighton Downtown Initiative sought assistance to help paint the tiles of its Mosaic Mural.

That came after council in May approved LDI’s request to purchase and erect a 7-foot by 12-foot Mosaic Mural, at a cost of $4,997, at a location to be determined for America250.

The Lehighton Downtown Initiative is a nonprofit organization working on the beautification and revitalization of Lehighton.
