Tuesday evening was perfect as the Nesquehoning community came together for the annual National Night Out celebration.
Several groups gathered on the grounds of the Nesquehoning Police station and Recreation Center, setting up various stands to educate children on emergency preparedness, while making it fun.
Borough firefighters brought firetrucks, while Lehighton Ambulance had a station set up so children could learn about CPR and other lifesaving measures.
The police department handed out free shirts to the kids, while the recreation commission handed out drawstring backpacks. Both were purchased with the use of a $5,000 grant from the Carbon County Opioid Settlement Funds.
The evening also included facepainting, a bounce house, tables by St. Luke’s and Lehigh Valley Health Network, the historical society, McDonald’s, Sokol Club and more.
National Night Out is an initiative that takes place in communities all over the country as a way to bring residents and organizations together and build a relationship outside of emergencies.
