An 18-year-old Pottsville woman died and four other people were injured in a two-vehicle crash at 8:16 p.m. Wednesday on the Burma Road in Blythe Township.

State police at the Frackville barracks said the deceased, Alexandria J. Womer, was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by a tractor-trailer after the car’s driver lost control of it. Police called the crash a “driving under the influence fatality.”

Injured were Martin A. Malis, 19, of Pottsville, the driver of the vehicle; two boys, ages 16 and 17, both from Pottsville; and a 14-year-old boy from Port Carbon.

Police said Malis was transported by personnel from the Ryan Township Emergency and Rescue Squad to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, East, Pottsville; while the 16-year-old and 17-year-old were taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest Campus, Salisbury Township, respectively, while the 14-year-old was taken to the St. Luke’s Hospital, Miners Campus, Coaldale.

Police said the crash occurred north of Firetower Road in the township when Malis was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu west. They said he was negotiating a left curve in the road when he lost control of the car and it rotated in a 90-degree fashion, entering the eastbound lane in front of a 2014 Kenworth, which struck the Malibu on its passenger side.

Police said both vehicles came to rest in the eastbound lane.

Police did not identify the driver of the commercial vehicle.

Police were assisted at the scene by the Ryan Township Fire Department, multiple emergency medical services agencies, and personnel from the state police CARS unit and a Troop L Forensic Services Unit.
