Man dies in house fire in South Whitehall

A man died in a house fire Monday morning in the 2800 block of Helen Street, South Whitehall Township, according to Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.

He said officials from the Coroner’s Office and Forensic Center were called to the scene around 4:40 a.m. and were told firefighters had removed the victim from the home. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 5 a.m..

Buglio said an autopsy would be performed today at the center.

He said the scene remains under an active investigation and efforts were focusing this morning on positively identifying the man and locating and notifying his next of kin.

In addition to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office, agencies responding to the incident include the South Whitehall Township Police Department, Woodlawn Fire Department, Greenawalds Fire Department, Cetronia Fire Department, Tri-Clover Fire Company, Western Salisbury Fire Company, Cetronia Ambulance Corps, Upper Macungie Township Fire Company, Coplay Fire Department, Catasauqua Fire Department, Neffs Fire Company and the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.
