Monroe parade set for 4th

Monroe County residents and visitors are invited to celebrate our nation’s 250th Anniversary at the patriotic Semiquincentennial Parade.

The parade will step off at Stroudsburg High School at 10 a.m. on the Fourth of July and march along Main Street through downtown Stroudsburg. It will then turn at Kane St. and McConnell St., and cross the bridge into East Stroudsburg. From there, it will continue up Washington Street and conclude at Dansbury Park.

According to Monroe County’s America250PA committee, “spectators can expect a colorful display of American pride, music, and hometown spirit throughout the parade route.”

Celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary, the parade will showcase a lineup of patriotic floats, marching bands, antique and modern fire trucks, miniature horses, veterans groups, past and present county leaders, community organizations, and other special attractions.

Grand Marshall Pam DePuy will lead the parade. Her 7th great-grandfather Nicholas DePuy was the first-known settler in the region in 1727, and one of the area’s first permanent settlers from Europe.

Monroe County Commissioner David Parker, who is also a member of this America250PA committee, said, “This parade is an opportunity for our entire community to come together and celebrate our nation’s history, heritage, and future. We encourage families, friends, and visitors to line the streets and be part of this memorable Semiquincentennial celebration.”

Prime viewing areas will be available along Main Street in Stroudsburg, across the bridge into East Stroudsburg, and along Washington Street leading to Dansbury Park. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to secure viewing locations and to bring chairs, water, and their patriotic spirit.

Each year, the Independence Day Parade has been one of the region’s signature events and promises to delight again this year.
