Eldred to work on Princess Run bridge
Eldred Township Public Works crews plan to do some work on a bridge over Princess Run on Princess Run Road near Cedar Hollow Road.
Jonathan Gula, the public works supervisor, said at the Eldred Township meeting last week that the bridge is due to be inspected by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in late August or September. The crews planned to build forms for concrete this week, an then let the concrete set for a week to cure before continuing the work. Gula said the bridge will be closed periodically as they work on it.
“There’s not a lot of traffic on it,” he said.
Gula also said the signage project on Point Philips Road is completed. In all, his crew installed 10 speed limit signs and truck restriction signs, and 49 curvature signs. The project cost $10,000, which was funded with an Automated Red Light Enforcement grant.
“Chevrons are in the corners, and then our turn signs per the traffic study done by LTAP, which was done at no cost for us,” Gula said. “So hopefully that will cut down with some of the crashes there above Hemlock, that road, that left turn is where everybody goes over. So hopefully this will prevent some of that.”
In other business, Donna Deihl, the manager of the Kunkletown Thrift Store, said that when they used the gymnasium in May for their sale, they were able to make $11,000 in one week. Their theme for the sale this month is Christmas in June.
“We’re doing it a little different. We’re doing Christmas in June, because we have 100s of boxes of Christmas stuff,” Deihl said.
The theme for July’s gym day is hodgepodge.
Deihl also said they turned in 8,605 pounds of clothing to “the 5 cents clothing guy.”
“So that’s a lot of clothing,” she said.
The supervisors approved the following:
• Resignation of Andrew Stallings from the public works department, and advertising to hire his replacement.
• Advertising to hire a secretary in the municipal office.
• Fall Cleanup Days — 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 18 and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 19, rain or shine. Gula said the spring cleanup was successful with enough collected to fill two 40-yard dumpsters and a 20-yard dumpster.
• Eldred Township Community Center — One additional parking spot will be added for people with disabilities.
