May 23, 1953 — Lehighton pounds out 13 hits and never trails in its junior legion non-league contest against Tamaqua. Charlie Mullen finishes 3-for-4 and scores a run during the 13-5 victory. A five-run third inning gives Lehighton, coached by “Moose” Kunkle, a comfortable lead but Tamaqua responds with four in the fourth. The winners, however, respond with six unanswered runs to seal the contest. Larry Hill adds two hits and scores three times, while Ronnie Costenbader contributes a pair of hits — one a triple — and two runs. Gerry Rothermel also chips in with two hits.
