Local Roundup: Results from May 5
The Marian boys baseball team clinched the Schuylkill League Division 2 title by defeating Minersville on Tuesday.
BASEBALL
Marian-Minersville
Chase Quinn-Gutsie’s RBI single in the fifth inning capped his three-hit game that lifted Marian past Minersville, 8-7, for the Colts 10th straight victory.
The win allowed Marian to claim the Schuylkill League Division 2 championship.
Minersville jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the top of first before the Colts rebounded with a five-run fourth that tied the game at 7-7. Jimmy Cannon and Roman Bednarek both had RBI singles, and Rocco Griguoi lofted a sacrifice fly for Marian in the fourth.
Griguoli and Bednarek each knocked in two runs, and Cannon had two hits for the Colts.
Cole Jordan gained the victory for Marian, as he surrendered four hits and one run with five strikeouts and four walks over 4.2 innings. Danny Lemus pitched a hitless 2.1 innings, struck out three, and picked up the save.

Tamaqua-Panther Valley
Tamaqua exploded for seven runs in the third inning and the Blue Raiders went on to rout Panther Valley, 14-1.
Brandon Witkowski and Jake Yesner each roped two-run singles in the third. Gavan Hess, who had an RBI double in the first, was 2-for-3 with three RBIs.
Yenser, who struck out five and allowed three hits over the first four innings, ended his day with a victory along with a 4-for-4, two-RBI performance.
Logan Morgans registered two hits and two RBIs, and Landon Kamant added two hits for Tamaqua. Kamant pitched the final fifth inning of the shortened contest.
Brody Breiner, Derek Lazar and Kaden Koerbler each had a hit for Panther Valley, with Koerbler accounting for the lone RBI.

SOFTBALL
Lehighton-Jim Thorpe
Gloria Strohl smacked two home runs and drove in four to lead Jim Thorpe past Lehighton, 17-16, in a Colonial League slugfest.
Strohl hit a three-run homer in the fifth that highlighted an 11-run inning for the Olympians and gave them a 17-13 advantage. She also hit a solo homer, and Kylie Sullivan followed with a two-run blast as part of a three-run fourth.
The Indians grabbed a 12-3 lead when they erupted for 11 runs in the third inning. Morgan Myers and Jordan Hausman both had two-run singles in the stanza.
Strohl and Sullivan both finished the day with four RBIs, and Madison Schwartz plated three RBIs for Jim Thorpe, which ended its regular season.
Hausman and Brynn Mriss both had two hits with three RBIs, and Hausman knocked in three runs on three hits for Lehighton.

Palmerton-Northern Lehigh
Kyla Trumbore’s two-run single in the home third proved to be the difference as Palmerton pushed past Northern Lehigh 3-2 in a Colonial League battle.
Tessa Sander earlier had an RBI single in the inning that helped the Blue Bombers build a 3-1 lead. Trumbore had two of Palmerton’s six hits.
Palmerton’s Hailey George went the distance, scattering seven hits, walking three and striking out four.
Northern Lehigh’s Addison Smith pitched all six innings, allowing six hits with six strikeouts. Emily Gad, Annalisa Douglas and Kylee Snyder each collected two hits for the Bulldogs.

Emily Upanavage twirled a six-hit shutout to lead Marian to a 9-0 victory over Minersville.
Upanavage helped her own cause with an RBI single during a five-run, third-inning for the Fillies, who got on the scoreboard in the first on Malina Lechter’s RBI single.
Lechter and Hailey Treskolasky each recorded two hits and two RBIs, and Chloe Cannon drove in two runs.
Isabella Cruz went 3-for-3 for Minersville.

Tamaqua-Panther Valley
Ceanna Gormley’s RBI single in the home fifth helped Tamaqua top Panther Valley, 8-7, in a battle for district playoff berths.
With the win, Tamaqua secured a Class 4A berth, while Panther Valley fell a game short.
Gormley’s ground out in the first gave Tamaqua the early lead. She also picked up the victory, hurling 4.1 innings in relief with seven strikeouts.
Panther Valley retook the lead, rallying for five runs in the second behind Jovie Breiner’s two-run single.
Tamaqua responded with a six-run third inning to regain the lead at 7-6 before Panther Valley’s Ava Alabovitz, who was 4-for-4, singled to tie the game in the top of the fourth.
Nico Conahan added two hits for Tamaqua.
Brooklyn Mika drove in two runs, and Jessica Prudente rapped three hits for Panther Valley.

Wallenpaupack
Rylee Rath pumped in four goals and tallied her 400th career score to lead Pleasant Valley to a 15-1 pummeling of winless Wallenpaupack.
The Bears stormed out to a 10-1 first-quarter lead, and rolled to their eight straight victory.
Rath added two assists, while Brielle Halamar netted five goals and five assists.

Northwestern-So. Lehigh
Northwestern Lehigh used a balanced offensive effort on Monday to earn a 10-7 victory over Southern Lehigh in Colonial League action.
Braydon Uricchio and Kendall Wikert led the way with three goals apiece for the Tigers. Trey Snyder added two goals and two assists, while Grayson Christman also scored twice. Logan Uricchio contributed two assists, and Tyler Kaas chipped in with one helper.
In goal, Dane Kauker recorded nine saves to help Northwestern secure the win.
