Tamaqua ready for patriotic mural
A wall that is visible from Tamaqua’s Liberty Tree Park was recently prepped for a mural.
Brian Klusman of Great Dane Power Wash, Tamaqua, volunteered his services and pressure washed the exterior wall.
Plans are to paint a patriotic mural on the wall, which is the back of Tommy’s restaurant on the unit block of North Railroad Street.
The building is owned by St. Luke’s University Health Network, and Tamaqua Borough Council recently approved the proposed mural.
The park is home to Schuylkill County’s Liberty Tree, a tulip poplar sapling from the last known remaining Liberty Tree. The tree is from America250PA’s Liberty Tree project and was planted in September.
According to America250, the Sons of Liberty often convened under the nation’s original Liberty Tree in Boston during the American Revolutionary War. The British destroyed the tree, but new Liberty Trees were designated. The last known original Liberty Tree was on the campus of Saint John’s College in Maryland until it was destroyed by Hurricane Floyd in 1999.
The park, which is under development, will also have a Liberty Bell replica created by Tamaqua Area Middle School art students and an America250PA marker commemorating Revolutionary War patriots. The marker was secured by a county chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Klusman also volunteered recently at the No. 9 Mine in Lansford where he cleaned the mine entrance and washed the powder house for repainting.
