Man assaults worker, damages door at auto shop

A Stroudsburg man is facing multiple charges after police said he assaulted an employee and damaged the door of an auto shop in Polk Township.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Trooper Shannon Grundmann of Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton, Brandon Sargent, 36, arrived around 8:15 p.m. April 2 at Altemose Auto along Interchange Road, despite being told he was not welcome there.

Police said Sargent approached a man, shouted at him, grabbed him by the throat and shoved him.

Sargent then kicked in the front door of the business, breaking the handle and causing damage inside when the door swung open, police said. He also wrote on an office door, “Brandon Sargent was here,” before leaving in a black 2025 Ford F-450.

About an hour later, Grundmann found the truck parked at the Polk Township Fire Company along Interchange Road.

Police said the vehicle’s heavy window tint blocked the trooper’s view inside and Sargent refused repeated commands to get out. When the window was partially lowered, Grundmann reported smelling alcohol.

Police said Sargent continued to refuse to get out of the vehicle and was eventually removed and taken into custody.

Grundmann said Sargent smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and glassy, bloodshot eyes.

Sargent is charged with burglary, simple assault, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, harassment, DUI and related traffic offenses, resisting arrest, recklessly endangering another person and reckless driving.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 28 before District Judge Colleen Mancuso in Brodheadsville.
