How our area legislators voted

The bills below were passed in the PA House of Representatives and were advanced to the Senate for concurrence. Here is how our area legislators voted:

House Bill 1344

The bill would require the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission to develop standards for the training and certification of police canine units to detect fentanyl.

In developing these standards, the commission must consult various experts that train canines to detect controlled substances and medical professionals and veterinarians who have expertise in developing protocols to minimize fentanyl exposure to canines and their handlers.

Yes: Jamie Barton, Gary Day, Doyle Heffley, Zach Mako and Jack Rader

House Bill 562

The bill would establish concurrent federal and state jurisdiction over military installations to bolster the network of support to military families.

When military installations are under exclusive federal jurisdiction, military children may be forced through an adult judicial system, which lacks appropriate juvenile-focused resources and may result in military-connected juveniles being tried as adults while their peers off-base may be steered into more appropriate channels.

Under this bill, installation authorities will be able to enter into a memorandum with state and local officials to define their working relationships and identify the best avenues for addressing juvenile misconduct of military-connected youth.

The bill provides for clean firm energy requirements, contract filing, commission review, disclosure requirements, backup generation standards, curtailment standards and certification and expedited interconnection for commercial data centers bringing incremental clean firm energy resources; and imposing penalties.
