A Weissport man wanted on a warrant died Sunday morning after barricading himself in an Allentown hotel room.
The Pennsylvania State Police Troop M Bethlehem and City of Allentown Police Department responded to the scene of an incident on Airport Road on Sunday.
At 10:16 a.m., troopers attempted to serve an arrest warrant on a 62-year-old male from Weissport, for a parole violation from Carbon County. The man was observed in the parking lot of the Super 8 Hotel, located on 1033 Airport Road, Allentown, and fled from troopers into a room in the Super 8 where he barricaded himself with a firearm.
The Allentown Emergency Response Team responded to the scene and attempted to negotiate a peaceful surrender to police.
Upon entry into the hotel room, the man was found deceased. His identity has not been released at this time.
The Lehigh County Coroner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Police said the death does not appear to be suspicious and there were no other injuries.
This incident is being investigated by the Troop M Criminal Investigation Unit. Assisting at the scene: Troop M Bethlehem Patrol Unit, Allentown Police Department, Allentown E.R.T., Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
Airport Road was closed between East Congress Street and Union Blvd. Airport Road was reopened at approximately 1:25 p.m.
