Third person dies in Schuylkill shooting
A third person has died following a triple shooting early Thursday morning in Shenandoah.
Pennsylvania State Police, Frackville barracks, said that Harley Dawn Reese, 31, died from her injuries on Saturday.
Reese, who had been in critical condition, along with Thomas Peter Chernewski, 63, and Kevin John Gordon, 40, all died as a result of the incident.
Pennsylvania State Police Troop L Public Information Officer Ethan Brownback said the Shenandoah Police Department received a call at 1 a.m. from a woman reporting that she received a text message saying that everyone was dead at 307 W. Center St.
Brownback said that upon arrival on the scene, members of the Shenandoah Police Department, Mahanoy Township Police Department, West Mahanoy Police Department and Frackville Police Department gained forcible entry into the residence due to the exigent circumstances.
He said that once inside the residence, a boy said to police, “I need help” and “Daddy just shot mom and granddad.”
Brownback said they then saw an older man deceased on the couch on the first floor.
At that time, he said, police heard a gunshot from upstairs, and upon going to the second floor they saw another deceased man, along with a woman in critical condition.
Brownback said the woman was transported to Geisinger Medical Center and was still alive but being treated in the intensive care unit.
He said gunshot wounds were found on the three adults.
Brownback said state police were contacted and activated the major case team at around 1:30 a.m.
He said Forensics Services Unit vehicles, along with the Schuylkill County Coroner’s Office arrived on the scene and assisted with the investigation.
Brownback said it was an isolated incident, and that there was no immediate threat to the public at this time.
Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David Moylan III previously said post-mortem CT scans were conducted on Chernewski and Gordon at the Schuylkill County Forensics Center in New Philadelphia.
He said both of the men had gunshot wounds to the head.
Brownback said Gordon’s injuries were determined as self-inflicted.
