Ohio man dies in Rt. 22 crash

A 27-year-old man from Youngstown, Ohio, died of injuries he suffered in a high-speed crash at 2:55 a.m. Sunday on Route 22 in Bethlehem Township.

State police at the Bethlehem barracks said David C. Puchala was pronounced dead at 3:56 at the St. Luke’s Hospital, Anderson Campus, Easton.

Police said he was driving a 2003 Subaru Impreza eastbound at more than 100 mph when he abruptly swerved to the right lane to avoid striking a front bumper that was laying in the left lane. Police said he lost control of the vehicle and went off the right shoulder and hit an embankment. The car then went airborne and traveled through a chin-link fence, producing a secondary impact by striking a tree and continued airborne, striking a second tree.

Police said Puchala was ejected from the vehicle and came to rest in the left shoulder of the left lane.

The car landed on the right shoulder of the right lane and was towed from the scene.

Police said a forensic services trooper responded to the scene and processed the incident.
