Northern Lehigh pool to open Friday
After a snag that resulted in a delay, the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool in Slatington is set to open later this week.
It will open from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, said Kasey Meixsell, executive director of the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority.
From that point, Meixsell said the pool will be open from noon to 7 p.m. Sunday through Saturday.
It will be open from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday and Thursday for water aerobics ($5 for members, $7 for nonmembers), with night swims scheduled for many Friday and Saturday nights from 7:30-10 p.m., weather dependent ($3 for members, $5 for nonmembers.
The cost for daily admission is $12 for adults, and $8 for children and senior citizens. The cost is half off from 5-7 p.m. (closing times may vary due to weather and occupancy).
Meixsell said the pool will eventually offer swimming lessons, but added the sign up link is not ready. Swim lessons will be offered through AquaMobile.
Season passes are available and may be purchased at https://NorthernLehighPA.MyRec.com/info/activities/program_details.aspx?ProgramID=29833 or just NorthernLehighPA.MyRec.co
Meixsell described some of the new features that will be available at the pool.
“There are new benches, new lifeguard towers, a new robotic vacuum, new bathroom stalls, new toilets, there will an ADA ramp and stair access into the pool,” Meixsell said. “We are just awaiting delivery of those shipments.”
Due to an unexpected equipment issue, the opening of the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool was delayed and a soft opening that had planned for the pool last weekend didn’t occur due to the malfunction.
Meixsell explained that the pool vacuum, affectionately named Bubbles, had broken down, an issue that was unforeseen.
The 2025 season will mark the final year for the NLRA managing and operating the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool in Slatington.
Beginning in 2026, the Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool Association will resume full operational responsibilities for the facility.
Since 2023, the authority has operated the Northern Lehigh Pool at the request of the NLSPA, which had determined it lacked the time and resources to manage the facility.
The NLSPA has decided to take on operational management starting in 2026.
The Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority serves the residents of Slatington Borough and Washington Township.
