After four years of planning, the Serra Club of Carbon and Schuylkill Counties became a reality when members celebrated their charter Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Lehighton.

Officers who celebrated receipt of the club’s charter from Fred Winne, District 80-1 governor, include Margaret Pelcheck, president-elect; Elizabeth Orsulak, vice president-membership; Joseph Pelcheck, vice president-communications; Michele Varley, vice president-vocations; Patricia Weigand, secretary/treasurer; and Cecelia Sebelin, Frank Parano and Bernadette Brennan, trustees.

Serra International was founded in 1935 in Seattle, Washington, by four original persons to discuss how Christian values could be lived in their personal lives.
