The Lehigh Canal Recreation Commission, Carbon County Conservation District, the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry and the Weiser Forest Fire Warden Association paid tribute to the late Reuben Hill over the weekend by planting a Whit Cloud Hawthorn tree in his memory at Lock 8 of the Lehigh Canal Park.

Hill was appointed a forest fire warden on March 15, 1939, and was active in the suppression of wildfires through his career. In the 1950s and 1960s, he had one of the largest forest fire fighting crews in Carbon County.

Hill, who had been secretary of the Lehigh Canal Commission, passed away on May 8, 1996. He was succeeded in that position by Christina van Gelder.
