Local roundup: Results from April 23

Northern Lehigh registered wins in both baseball and softball on Tuesday.

Both Bulldog squads defeated Catasauqua.

Elsewhere, Pleasant Valley received wins from both its lacrosse teams.

BASEBALL

Catasauqua-Northern Lehigh

Northern Lehigh scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a tie score and claim a 10-8 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

The Bulldogs led by six runs early before Catty rallied to knot the game in the top of the sixth. But Parker Schaeffer laced an RBI double, and Brayden Tossi roped a two-run single in the bottom half of the frame to put Northern Lehigh back on top.

Tossi had two hits and three RBIs for the winners, while Schaeffer finished with a pair of hits and knocked in two runs. Nick Buskirk, Jack Tosh and Brayden Buskirk all added two runs. Nick Buskirk also stole three of the team’s six bases.

With the win, Northern Lehigh improved to 3-8 overall and 3-6 in the league.

David Carl had two hits for the Rough Riders, now 2-11.

Panther Vy.-Abington Heights

At PNC Field, Mark Nazar knocked in five runs to help Abington Heights score a 10-3 non-league victory over Panther Valley.

Nazar collected two hits in the contest, which the Comets led 8-0 after three innings.

Reese Zalewski also had a big day at the plate for the winners, finishing with two hits, two runs and three RBIs. Harshal Patel chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs.

For the Panthers, who slipped to 8-4, Tyler Black had a double, a run and two RBIs, while Danny Wehr added a hit and knocked in a run. PV also received a hit and a run from Stephen Hood.

SOFTBALL

Catasauqua-Northern Lehigh

Kylee Snyder had a big day offensively to help Northern Lehigh gain a 9-3 Colonial League victory over Catasauqua.

Snyder had an RBI triple in her first at-bat, added a two-run double in the second inning, and contributed to her team’s five-run fourth inning with a two-run single.

In addition to her three hits and five RBIs, the Bulldogs received two hits and three runs from Haylie Fenstermaker, and a pair of hits and two runs from Arabella Heintzelman.

Peyton Hoffman also chipped in with two hits and a run.

Northern Lehigh improved to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the league. The Bulldogs need one more win to clinch a district playoff berth.

For Catty, now 5-7 and 3-7, Delaney Troxell had three hits and two RBIs.

Lincoln Leadership-Panther Vy.

Mikayla Yuricheck collected two hits - including the 100th of her career - and two RBIs to help Panther Valley roll to a 15-0 non-league victory over Lincoln Leadership.

The Panthers, who scored 10 runs in the opening inning, also received a pair of hits and a run from Madeline Schirer.

Kyla McQuillen added a hit, two RBIs and a pair of runs, while Janessa Prudente walked three times and scored twice.

The win _ along with two forfeit victories the Panthers will be receiving from Shenandoah today in their scheduled doubleheader - lifts PV’s record to 6-6.

BOYS LACROSSE

Pleasant Valley-Saucon Valley

Zane Kromer scored six goals to help lead Pleasant Valley to an 18-3 victory over Saucon Valley.

The win upped PV’s record to 3-9.

Easton-Northwestern

Xavier Parker, Sean McPeek and Shae Linegar all had four goals as Easton rolled to a 15-3 victory over Northwestern.

Blaine Snyder, Devon Hildebrand, and Michael Lagowy had goals for the Tigers, while goalie Bailen Smargiassi made 18 saves.

The loss dropped Northwestern to 6-5.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Pleasant Vy..-Saucon Vy.

Rylee Rath had five goals and two assists as Pleasant Valley cruised to a 16-1 victory over Saucon Valley.

Devon Bush and Samantha Miller both added four goals, with Bush also adding a pair of assists.

The Bears, still undefeated at 14-0, also received a tally and four assists from Olivia Iandoli, while Gabrielle Kutzler chipped in with a goal and a helper. Evelyn VanDerheyden contributed two assists, and Morgan Ryals added a goal.

Northwestern-Easton

Northwestern’s Cara Thomas had three goals and four assists, but it wasn’t enough as Easton earned a 21-11 victory.

The Tigers also received three goals from Olivia Costa, while Sydney Wright finished with two goals. Olivia Fagan chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Emma Yanders collected 11 saves for Northwestern, which fell to 3-8.

BOYS TENNIS

Pottsville-Lehighton

Singles players Bayto Cokrilja and Isaac Carpenter both won in straight sets to help lead Lehighton to a 4-1 victory over Pottsville.

The Indians, who improved to 8-3, also received a win from the doubles team of Michael Bowman and Phillip Ebbert.

Pen Argyl won all three singles matches in straight sets en route to a 5-0 victory over Jim Thorpe.

The Knights’ No. 1 Mason Soos didn’s drop a game as his team evened its mark at 6-6.

The Loss dropped the Olympians to 0-14.

Bangor-Palmerton

Straight-set wins from Levi Johnson and Anderson Garcia-Escobar in singles play aided Palmerton’s 3-2 victory over Bangor.

The Blue Bombers also received a crucial victory from the doubles team of Katie Hemibach and Colton Ruzicka.

Palmerton finishes the season at 4-8.
