Volunteers pick up litter in Thorpe, throughout area

The streets and sidewalks of Jim Thorpe and surrounding areas are looking a lot nicer today thanks to the many volunteers who took part in Pick Up the Poconos.

The clean ups took place in various locations around Carbon, Monroe, Wayne, and Pike Counties.

Audrey Levy, from the Jim Thorpe area, was there as part of the Jack Frost/Big Boulder group who volunteered.

“We’re excited to be here for Earth Day, to be here to pick up anywhere we can, and get the community involved in this,” Levy said.

More than 500 volunteers participated, including people who registered via PickUpThePoconos.com as well as private groups.

More than 25 organizations, schools, businesses, and Pocono resorts have organized cleanups in conjunction with the event

Following the collection was an Earth Day celebration at Pocono Organics on Long Pond Road in Blakeslee. Volunteers enjoyed food, drinks, educational activities, door prizes, and more.

Litter pick up is not just for Earth Day. Any individuals or organizations can arrange their own pick up days. Visit PickUpThePoconos.com for more information.
