Carbon County Commissioners

The Carbon County Commissioners acted on or discussed the following items during their weekly meeting on Thursday.

• Authorized the advertisement of the first public hearing notice regarding the 2024 Community Development Block Grant funds and applications for entitlement and non-entitlement communities.

• Approved the appointment of Marlyn Kissner of Lehighton to fill the seat of alternate on the Open Space Advisory Board, with the term expiring May 31, 2026. She replaces Brent Green.

• Approved a letter of commitment with the Wildlands Conservancy for a 20% match from the county to be leveraged toward the application the conservancy is submitting to the state. The grant total is $75,000 with the Wildlands matching $60,000 will be used for land preservation in the Upper Lehigh Watershed with specific work in Carbon County. Carbon County commits a total of $15,000, which will be split into two payments in 2025 and 2026.

• Approved a maintenance renewal agreement with Tyler Technologies of Moraine, Ohio covering the Univers and Landisc Support System in the Carbon County Tax Assessment office. The total cost is $19,735 and is effective from July 1 through June 30, 2025.

• Resignations: Benjamin T. Unkle III of Jim Thorpe, part-time K-9 officer, effective April 5; Russell W. Shade II of Palmerton, part-time senior center operator I, effective April 26; and Erin C. Panell of Lehighton, children and youth services solicitor, effective April 19.

• Change of status: Kristy Cummins of Lehighton, from public defender office manager to legal secretary III, public defender; Karen S. Flexer of Lehighton, from clerk PFAD coordinator, prothonotary, to legal secretary III, public defender; and Sherry K. McHugh of Jim Thorpe, from legal secretary III to public defender office manager, public defender, all effective April 29.

• Court appointment: Cassandra L. Branchide of Lansford, secretary I, district court, Lansford, effective April 15.
