Tamaqua arts center hosts benefit concert

The Tamaqua Arts Center is getting ready for its biggest fundraiser of the year.

Appropriately named the “Tamaqua Arts Center BIG Benefit Concert” it will be held at 7 p.m. April 26 at the 125 Pine St. center.

And once again, “Micah and the Loose Threads” will take the stage.

“This will be the 10th year for the benefit,” explained Kyle Whitley, the center’s co-director.

And through it, organizers are hoping to raise funds to keep the center’s mission to “create, learn, and appreciate the fine and performing arts” going.

Corporate sponsorships provide private seating for four and start at $2,500 to help with bar and beverage service at the event. The highest sponsorship - at $1.2 million - is for naming rights to the center.

There’s another for $250,000 to help provide for a much-needed elevator for the center. It would connect the basement level with the top floor, where The Stitch Performance Hall is located.

“We’re working with an architect to figure out the best plan to have an elevator in that building,” Whitley said.

A $100,000 corporate sponsorship is also available and goes toward naming rights of the center’s art gallery.

The “Micah” in “Micah and the Loose Threads” is Micah Gursky, executive director of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership, the nonprofit organization that purchased the former First Salem United Methodist Church and helped transform it into the center.

“The Loose Threads is the backup band and it changes every year,” Whitley said.

A few will return for the 2024 benefit, including Dr. Greg Dobash and Ron Feltenberger, both of St. Luke’s University Health Network.

Rounding out this year’s band will be Aimee Hegedus, Aileen Hall, Zac Yenser and Chris Morrison. The group has been practicing over the last few months.

The set list varies from year to year, but Gursky said the band intends to perform some rock, some country and some originals.

Patron sponsorships are also available and donations are being accepted.

The arts center is in its 12th year and offers classes for all ages, live performances and more. For more information on the benefit or the center, visit www.tamaquaarts.org.
