Cause of Nesquehoning fire not found

The cause of the fire in Nesquehoning on Sunday that destroyed two houses and damaged a third has been ruled undetermined.

Nesquehoning Hose Company Fire Chief John McArdle, who also serves as the borough’s emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, said that the state fire marshal was not able to determine what started the blaze early Sunday.

Crews were called to the scene at 255 E. Railroad St. around 7:30 a.m. for a structure fire with entrapment.

Reports state that one person jumped from a second-story window. That person, as well as a second resident, were taken to the hospital to be evaluated.

The second home at 261 E. Railroad was evacuated before the fire spread to the structure.

Another home, located on the other side of 255 sustained heavy smoke and heat damage.

At least two animals perished in the fire.

Several others were rescued.

GoFundMe accounts have been set up for the residents of the two houses destroyed.
