Scholarships available for nursing, higher education

Information is available for scholarships through a Lehighton church.

The William C. & Loretta K. Shirar Memorial Scholarship For Nursing was established for the purpose of awarding scholarships to high school seniors or older people who are pursuing a career as a registered nurse.

The applicant is to be a voting member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton.

First consideration is to be given to any person who is pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, followed by either a person in Associate Degree program or a Diploma program for registered nursing. Should there be no candidate from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lehighton, who makes application for these scholarships for nursing, any applicant from the Lehighton Area School District will be considered.

If two or more candidates pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or if two or more candidates pursuing an Associate Degree or Diploma program for registered nursing apply for the Scholarship, the determining factor will be the financial need of the student.

The Jean D. & Robert A. Benner Nursing Scholarship memorial nursing scholarship was established for the purpose of awarding a scholarship to a high school senior or older individual who is pursuing a career as a registered nurse.

First consideration is to be given to people who are pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, followed by either people in an Associate Degree program or a Diploma program for registered nursing. Any applicants from the school districts in Carbon County will be considered.

This includes the Weatherly, Panther Valley, Jim Thorpe Lehighton, and Palmerton school districts and the Carbon Career & Technical Institute. If two or more candidates pursuing a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, or if two or more candidates pursuing an Associate Degree or Diploma program for registered nursing make application for the scholarships the determining factor will be the financial need of the candidates.

The Thomas L. Reisenweaver Memorial Higher Education Scholarship will be given to a student pursuing a degree in music or a finance-related field.

First consideration will be someone pursuing a degree in music or a finance-related field. If no applicants in these fields, then preference will be given to a member of Trinity in any course of study.

The Marian A. Ashner Memorial Scholarship In Education awards up to two scholarships will be given to Lehighton area students majoring in education. Applicant must be enrolled at a Pennsylvania college or university. Scholarship recipients can reapply in subsequent years for consideration for additional scholarship grants.

The Eckhart Family Memorial Scholarship was established by Leonard and Gloria Eckhart in memory of Lori Flyte and Dino Eckhart.

Two scholarships will be given each year to two Lehighton area students majoring in a medical field, a business field, or a trade school program. Applicants must be pursuing a degree or diploma from an accredited school of higher learning. Applicants are to be voting members of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. If none, applicants will be considered from the Lehighton Area School District.

The Mark Krieger Memorial Scholarship was established to provide help to people pursuing a degree or diploma from an accredited school of higher learning. Applicant is to be a voting member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. If none, applicant will be considered from the Lehighton Area School District.

The Trinity Higher Education Grant was established to provide help to people pursuing a degree or diploma from an accredited school of higher learning. Applicant is to be a voting member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. If none, applicant will be considered from the Lehighton Area School District.
