Lansford addresses dog waste problem

Lansford Borough Council wants people to clean up after their dogs.

Council Vice President Jay Doyle said Ridge Street is full of dog droppings.

“It’s all up and down the business district,” he said Tuesday during council’s committee meetings.

Doyle asked if the borough had signs regarding cleaning up dog feces or provided wastebaskets and disposal bags anywhere in town.

“It’s ridiculous to walk up Ridge Street and just see piles of dog feces everywhere,” he said. “So, we should look into doing something with that. At least in the business district.”

Councilwoman Jennifer Staines said that they have a dispenser with bags down by the pool.

“Nobody uses it,” Councilman Joseph Butrie said. “Out around the pool parking lot, there’s bags to put your dog feces in. There’s dog feces all over the place. Nobody uses the bags.”

Doyle said that he’d like to see the dispenser and bags on Ridge Street, and Councilwoman Michele Bartek said she’d like to see people fined.

“When this is going on, they need to be fined,” she said.
