Pleasant Valley shuffles administrative lineup

Pleasant Valley High School is changing its co-principal setup with one of the principals staying on in his position and the other becoming the supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction.

The Pleasant Valley School Board approved the change at their meeting on Monday night. School board Director John Gesiskie voted no.

Co-principal Brian Boylan will stay on as the principal with a salary of $117,000, while Jonathan Ayre is moving to the supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction position. His salary will be $113,000. The changes will be effective on July 1.

Another change among the principals is changing the title of principal for Bears Academy to director of Instructional Technology and Innovation.

The school board approved the change to the position description, and it will be added to the Administrative/Professional (Group 1) of the Administrative/Administrative Support Staff Compensation Plan.

Jason Van Voorhis, who had been the principal of the middle school, was named principal of the Bears Academy in April 2023, after the school board approved creating the position.

The school district hoped to encourage families who sent their children to outside cyber charter schools to return to the school district and attend either the Bears Academy or classes in the school buildings.

According to the enrollment report for March, there are 281 students who are 100% virtual in the Bears Academy. This is an increase of 21 students since February.

Another 19 students take some virtual classes, but most of their classes are at a school building.

School board President Susan Kresge asked Superintendent James Konrad to provide some information regarding upcoming personnel changes.

“At this time right now, we will be hiring several professional staff members and those postings are forthcoming,” he said.

Konrad asked that especially current employees tell friends and people, who might be interested in applying, about the upcoming openings. He anticipates that as the school year comes to a close, there could be additional staff that decide to retire or resign.

According to the school district’s website, they are currently looking to fill two assistant principal positions at the high school and one assistant principal position at the middle school.
