Tamaqua man charged for dealing drugs

A Tamaqua man has been charged by Nesquehoning police as part of a Carbon County drug investigation.

Jason Mendez-Garcia was taken into custody following a search warrant execution and faces two felony charges of manufacturing, delivery or possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance; one felony county of criminal use of communications facility, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Nesquehoning police, the department, as members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, began investigating the distribution of illegal narcotics being sold in the county.

On March 22, officers served two search warrants at Mendez-Garcia’s residence and seized 696 bags of fentanyl, 5.2 grams of cocaine, a 9mm handgun and $900 cash.

He was arraigned before District Judge Beth Dodson and is in Carbon County Correctional Facility on $150,000 straight cash bail.

Nesquehoning police were assisted by Lansford, Tamaqua and Lehighton police departments, as well as the Carbon County Sheriff’s and District Attorney’s offices.

Mendez-Garcia faces a preliminary hearing on April 3.
