Pub crawl raises money for Lehighton projects

A rainy Saturday afternoon did not dampen the spirits of those taking part in the Kilt on Wheels Pub Crawl in Lehighton.

The Jim Thorpe Trolley Company provided the trolley that ferried the participants to the six participating locations for the pub crawl: Lehighton Orioles Nest 183, Radical Wine, Griffs, Lehighton American Legion Post 213, The Boat Yard, and Bonnie & Clyde Pub.

“We sold about 80 tickets ahead of time, and gave some away on the radio,” Bambi Elsasser, from Lehighton Downtown Initiative, said. “More will buy their tickets today. We are thinking about 150 people.”

Autumn and Norman Frey of Lehighton were among the first to register at the Lehighton Municipal Building.

“We’re just enjoying ourselves on this rainy day,” Autumn said. “Our daughter is with his (Norman’s) Mom, so we’re going to go out and have a good time.”

“Looking forward to a great afternoon,” Norman added.

The trolley made the rounds all afternoon between the six locations. Riders could hop on and hop off between them. Some of the locations had special fundraising games for the riders like 50/50 chances, Pot of Gold, Luck of the Irish Wheel, and Leprechaun Dice. All attendees received a half pint glass to enjoy their drinks throughout the day; and a swag bag with water, snacks, coupons/discounts for businesses plus other goodies.

Elsasser spoke of some of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative’s upcoming events.

“Wine on the River is coming up, we have our Lehighton Residents Bowling Night on March 30 at Fritz Lanes. We may be teaming up with the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau for Clean up the Poconos. There is the farmers market along the bypass, and some other projects to take place along Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Blvd.”

Sponsors for the event were: Home Comfort Solutions, The Times News, Iron Valley Real Estate NE, and LE Williams Printing.
