Lansford woman faces drug trafficking charges

A Lansford woman faces several drug related charges for her part in drug trafficking in the area.

According to an affidavit filed by Nesquehoning police Chief Michael Weaver against Maria Gelsomina Alfeo, 34, of East Abbott Street, a search warrant was obtained on Wednesday for her residence following a months long investigation by Nesquehoning police as members of the Carbon County Drug Task Force into the distribution of illegal narcotics being sold in the county.

On Thursday morning, agents from the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General and the Carbon County Drug Task Force, executed the warrant, locating Alfeo, as well as Joseph Becker, 53; a 70-year-old woman and an 8-year-old child in the home.

Officers found 106.69 grams of suspected methamphetamine; 191.02 grams of suspected marijuana; various drug paraphernalia including syringes, bags, jars and a digital scale; and paperwork in Alfeo’s bedroom wall safe.

In addition, officers located a bag and pipe with suspected methamphetamine residue in a basement bedroom used by Becker.

Alfeo was taken into custody and transported to the Nesquehoning Police station, where she provided a video confession admitting to selling meth and other drugs to between 20 and 30 people since August 2023 and of those approximate five to 10 customers are regular buyers.

Alfeo faces two counts each of manufacture, delivery or possession with the intent to manufacture or deliver (felony charges); and possession of a controlled substance (misdemeanors); and one count use or possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was arraigned before District Judge Beth Dodson Thursday afternoon and is in Carbon County Correctional Facility after being unable to post bail, which was set at $50,000.

She faces a preliminary hearing on March 13.

Weaver said that charges against Becker will be forthcoming.
