Carbon pair face drug charges in Lehighton

A man and woman from Carbon County face charges after being found in possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

Patrolman Gabe Szozda of the Lehighton Borough Police Department filed charges against Leroy Biechy and Jamie Stevens.

According to court papers, on Jan. 25, Szozda received information that Stevens, 43, of Lehighton, would be traveling to Philadelphia to buy drugs in a Dodge Caravan.

The source said that Biechy, 32, of Palmerton, would drive the vehicle.

Biechy had an active arrest warrant from Lehigh County for failure to appear for drug misdemeanor charges, and Stevens had an active warrant from Montgomery County for failure to appear for felony drug trafficking charges.

The source said the vehicle would be exiting the Pennsylvania Turnpike Mahoning Valley exit at 7:10 p.m. At 7:09 p.m., officers and agents, saw the van exiting the Turnpike, and it was stopped on Route 209 in Franklin Township. Police saw controlled substances in the vehicle.

Biechy, the driver, was taken into custody. He admitted that he drove everyone to the Kensington section of Philadelphia and back to the Lehighton area.

Stevens, a passenger, was taken into custody and admitted she had just traveled to the Kensington section of Philadelphia to purchase fentanyl, crack cocaine, and powder cocaine.

Stevens said that she has five or six people she sells drugs to in the Lehighton area, and later signed a written statement admitting to this.

Braxton Reppert, 34, the third passenger in the vehicle, was found to have an active warrant from the Lehighton barracks of the Pennsylvania State Police, and told Urbanski that he went with Stevens to buy fentanyl.

Upon searching Reppert, he was found to have 14 packets of suspected fentanyl with a weight of about 5.6 grams with packaging.

Two other passengers were also identified inside the vehicle, including its owner who said that Biechy had asked to drive her vehicle, and she agreed.

Officers found in the car:

• 91 packets of suspected fentanyl with a weight of about 41.8 grams.

• 24 vials of suspected crack cocaine with a weight of about 13.7 grams.

• Six bags of suspected powder cocaine of two grams with packaging.

• One bag of suspected Psilocybin Mushrooms with a weight of about 5.2 grams.

Biechy faces charges on two counts each of criminal conspiracy, and manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent.

Stevens faces charges on two counts each of criminal conspiracy; manufacture, delivery, or possession with intent; intentional possession of controlled substance; and use/possession of drug paraphernalia.

Biechy and Stevens are currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $100,000 straight bail, and were scheduled to have preliminary hearings Wednesday before District Judge William J. Kissner of Palmerton.
