Carbon Co. commissioners honor FBLA students

Carbon County is honoring the girls and boys who are striving to be Future Business Leaders of America.

On Thursday, the county commissioners adopted a proclamation naming Feb. 11-17 as FBLA Week in Carbon County.

FBLA is a nonprofit educational organization that started in Tennessee in 1942 and expanded into Pennsylvania in 1943.

Locally, according to the proclamation, Jim Thorpe Area High School’s FBLA chapter started on Oct. 26, 2016; while LB Morris Middle School and Penn Kidder Campus Middle School chapters began in September 2023.

The county recognizes these students who are part of an organization consisting of over 200,000 members in 4,600 chapters nationwide.

For the school year, Jim Thorpe’s chapters boast 139 members in the high school, 26 members in Penn Kidder and 66 members in LB Morris.

The goal for the program is to educate students about the importance of positive working relationships through innovative leadership and career development programs.

In honor of the week, the county plans on visiting each of these schools next week to speak to students about this organization and how members can help create a new generation of successful business leaders.
