It’s not too early to think about your Valentine

Petal Pushers Floral Co. will have flowers - and lots of them - for Valentine’s Day, said owner Heidi Devlin.

But while daisies, carnations and asters will be available, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that they’ll all take a back seat to another type of bloom.

“Roses are always the most popular,” said Heidi Devlin, owner of the Hometown shop.

Petal Pushers and other area businesses are getting ready for the day that’s all about love - and treating a significant other to flowers, chocolates, cards or special dinners.

At Petal Pushers, plenty of roses will be in stock.

“Traditionally, it is the red. Last year we did a lot of mixed colors but red is the go-to for Valentine’s Day,” Devlin noted.

The can be arranged in a vase, or wrapped in paper and tied with a pretty bow. They can be ordered and delivered to the Tamaqua, West Penn, Barnesville and Panther Valley areas, or picked up at the store.

Devlin also recently added her homemade soaps and hand-poured candles to the store’s shelves.

“The cold-processed soap is made here. We use all different sorts of ingredients. We use essential oils,” she said.

The newest creation is just in time for Valentine’s Day. Called “Love Spell,” the soap is topped with dried rose buds.

The Wild & Free Bakery at the Slatington Farmers’ Market has some pre-Valentine’s Day deliciousness lined up.

During market hours today and Sunday, the bakery will have special “flights” that include chocolate mousse cake, cheesecake, and four chocolate-covered strawberries.

“Don’t miss out on this irresistible treat for you and your loved one,” said owner Connie Hoffman.

The bakery will also have two new cupcake flavors ahead of Valentine’s Day - chocolate raspberry delight and red velvet.

“We’ll also have our most popular flavors, chocolate peanut butter and strawberry shortcake,” Hoffman said.

The Spa at the Y-Jim Thorpe Massage & Wellness Studio has gift certificates that can be redeemed for pampering services such as therapeutic massage, skin care, facials and body treatments.

“Gift cards are great because people can do whatever they want whenever they want,” said spa owner and general manager Amy Levinson.

For a romantic idea, Levinson suggested a certificate for a couples’ massage that includes a chocolate marshmallow facial.

In addition to a 90-minute massage, the couple will be treated to a facial with a cocoa enzyme and marshmallow root mask.

“It’s not made out of corn syrup and it smells just like marshmallows,” Levinson said.

At the Bowmanstown Diner, a number of Valentine’s Day specials will be offered to treat your sweetheart on Feb. 14.

“We’ll have steaks, seafood - a lot of specials,” said owner Rich Wenner.

There’s even a steak and lobster combo, along with scallops and tasty side dishes freshly prepared at the 642 White St. eatery.

And what’s a Valentine’s Day dinner without dessert? Wenner said that in addition to the cakes, pies and ice cream always available, a special selection will be offered on Feb. 14.

Kushy Boutique in Walnutport offers an array of gifts.

“We have everything from candles to jewelry to house items. We have a little bit of everything,” said Lynn Minnelli, owner of the 4622 Lehigh Dr. store.

Everything at Kushy Boutique is homemade or crafted in the United States.

“We have over 80 wonderful crafters and artisans who make stuff,” Minnelli said.

Inventory changes often, she noted.

“We have hearts that come in, fabric hearts and hand sewn place mats with hearts,” Minnelli said.

Jewelry is a popular gift for the holiday.

“We have everything from costume jewelry to sterling silver, platinum plated,” Minnelli said.

Sweet notes can’t be forgotten, and the Mauch Chunk Pharmacy has plenty of Valentine’s Day cards to select from.

In addition, the 1204 North St. shop has gift items, including boxed chocolates.
