Update: Man died of natural causes in Nesquehoning

Nesquehoning police have released details regarding a reported body found along the 700 block of East Catawissa St. early Thursday morning.

According to police Chief Michael Weaver, officers were called to the scene just after 5 a.m. after a motorist reported seeing a man laying along the side of the road.

When police arrived, it was determined that the older man had been taking out his trash when he suffered a medical episode and collapsed near the curb.

Weaver said that police spoke with the man’s wife, who said that her husband had woken up around 4 a.m. to put out the trash for collection. She had also noted that he had an extensive medical history.

Police said there was no trauma found on the man and the coroner believed it to be a medical incident, Weaver said.

Police are also still looking for the identity of three men who stole money from the Fuel Up station at 701 E. Catawissa St. on Dec. 28.

Weaver said that they have not received any leads as to their identities but said that the department has been working with state police and have sent some DNA swabs away for testing.

Anyone with any information regarding the theft or the identity of those involved should call the police department at 570-669-9111.
