Carbon County Commissioners

Carbon County commissioners acted on or discussed the following during their meeting Thursday. Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein was absent.

• Approved an agreement with Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission of Stroudsburg to provide drug and alcohol treatment counseling services for the inmate population at the Carbon County Correctional Facility for 2024. The cost is $84,273 and will be paid through the commissary fund.

• Approved an annual maintenance/service agreement with the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Institute relative to the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification System in Carbon County. There is no cost to the county.

• Commissioner Rocky Ahner reported that the fentanyl awareness campaign billboards have been installed in Carbon County. He pointed out two, one in the Packerton Dip and one on the top of the Route 209 hill near Perch. He added that there are several others throughout the county.

• Ahner also thanked outgoing officials Commissioner Chris Lukasevich, Controller Mark Sverchek and Coroner Bob Miller for their work during his first term as commissioner. He also welcomed incoming Commissioner Michael Sofranko, Controller Kayla Herman, Coroner Mark Smith and District Judge Beth Dodson, who will take over the in the new year.

• Resignation: Zaryanna ZUI Wellington of Allentown, corrections officer, effective Dec. 22.

• Hires: Jennifer L. Brown of Jim Thorpe, administrative assistant trainee, planning and development, effective Jan. 2; and Leanna N. Williams of East Stroudsburg, county caseworker I, Children and Youth Services, effective Jan. 4.

• Change of status: Kristel H. Pinckney of Nesquehoning, from TANF caseworker to caseworker, WIOA, effective Jan. 8.
