Missions dinner

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will host its Missions dinner at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Youth Ministry of church the collected 300 toiletries for St. Francis Kitchen in Scranton for the annual Christmas Shoe Box Project. Boxes were slated to be distributed at the Kitchen on Christmas Day to those in need.

Mission reviewed

Pleasant Valley Presbyterian Church at 150 Pilgrim Way in Brodheadsville will welcome back Pastor Chuck and Deb at 10 a.m. Sunday and hear about the couple’s recent mission trip to Malawi.

New Year’s meal

Pork and sauerkraut is the meal deal of New Year’s Day offered by the Western Pocono Lions Club at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, from noon to 3 p.m.

Dinner includes pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, roll and various desserts.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 570-801-7509 or at the door that day. Takeouts will be available.

New Year’s event

Effort UMC will celebrate New Year’s Eve with and for its church family. The celebration will go from 6 p.m. until whenever.

Folks are asked to bring a covered dish and some games, and sign up at the welcome center.

Shawl ministry

Effort UMC’s Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet at the church Tuesday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. newcomers are welcome.

Organizational meeting

Eldred Township will hold its reorganizational meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 2, 2024.

The township’s auditor meeting will be held at 7 p.m. the next evening.

Monroe Seniors

Zion Lutheran will again host the 9 a.m. the twice weekly meetings of the Monroe County Seniors on Wednesday and Friday.

Jan. 1 Bingo

American Legion Post 927, Gilbert, will be reopening at 1 p.m. New Year’s Day after closing at 6 p.m. New Year’s Eve.

The bingo begins card sales at 6:30 p.m. and the first game will be called at 7 p.m.

Habitat help

This past year Monroe County Habitat for Humanity completed 27 home preservation projects, over 4,500 volunteers hours and one home dedication.

Habitat is asking for community support so that it can do even more in the New Year.

To make a donation, call the Habitat office at 570-216-4390 or simply give online through the Habitat website.

Habitat has various programs to help folks, including its Home Preservation program, Homeownership program, ReStore and other educational opportunities.
