Missing student from Rochester area found in Palmerton

A college student missing from the Rochester area since last month has been found safe after he showed up in Palmerton.

Palmerton Borough Police Detective Kevin Buck said Matthew Grant, 22, of Onaway, Michigan, arrived at the Palmerton Police Station at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

“He came here and said, “Hey, I think I’m missing.”

Buck said that officer Adam Shimer had sent out the confirmation.

“After they confirmed it was him, they made contact with some investigator from the Monroe County New York Sheriff’s Office, then we were contacted by the US Park Police,” Buck said. “They said that his jeep had been located in a US. Park Service parking lot, found that he had signed a visitor log in one of the parks, and had been searching south on the Appalachian Trail for him.”

Buck added, “It looks like the male was transported with a member of the US Park Police back to the Delaware Water Gap police station. That was the end of our involvement.”

He said Grant came off the Appalachian Trail and decided to contact the Palmerton Police Department because he hadn’t made contact with his family since the end of November.
