A Philadelphia man is being held in Carbon County Prison without bail in the stabbing of a Banks Township man in the leg Monday night, according to court records.

Nyshere Dobson, 24, was arraigned Tuesday morning on charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault and simple assault by District Judge Joseph Homanko, who denied bail.

According to court papers, state police at Hazleton responded to a home on Berwick Street, Banks Township, for a reported stabbing.

Troopers found Scott Kevan, 41, lying on the front porch in a large pool of blood and bleeding profusely from his leg, court papers said.

Troopers placed a tourniquet on Kevan’s leg and he was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton, and then flown to LVH-Cedar Crest, court papers said.

His condition is unknown.

Troopers found Dobson, the suspect, hiding in woody brush in the backyard of the home and took him into custody, court papers said.

Dobson, who was released from prison earlier on Monday, went to the Berwick Street home because an acquaintance/girlfriend who is Kevan’s niece, was temporarily staying there, court papers said.

An argument ensued between Dobson and Kevan inside the home, and Dobson and stabbed Kevan in the leg with a knife, court papers said. Dobson then fled.

Troopers conducted numerous interviews with witnesses. One witness told police that Dobson was at his Berwick Street home at 8 p.m. and was intoxicated, court papers said.

Dobson told the man about having a “beef” with Kevan, and said he was going to kill him, court papers said. The man said that Dobson was rambling, and he began to feel uncomfortable around him.

Both men then went to the neighboring home n the row home complex where Kevan lives. A witness told police Dobson appeared agitated, and he saw him outside on the street urinating and yelling, court papers said.

He tole police he heard Dobson yell, “I’m going to kill him,” court papers said.

He went out and tried to calm him down, but Dobson went to Kevan’s home, banged on the door and kicked it in as a resident opened it, court papers said.

The witness told troopers that Dobson stumbled inside the home, went to the kitchen, where he could hear Dobson going through drawers, court papers said.

He said he then saw Kevan tell Dobson to get out of the house, and Dobson said something to Kevan about him hurting his son and stabbed Kevan in the leg, court papers said.

He saw a large amount of blood coming from Kevan’s leg wound, retrieved a firearm and drew it on Dobson, fearing for everyone’s safety, court papers said. Dobson fled the home and the people in the home provided medical aid and CPR to Kevan.

A neighbor told police that she heard the commotion outside and said Dobson was banging on and kicking in Kevan’s door. She also saw him go inside the home, get a knife from the kitchen and stab Kevan in the leg, court papers said.

Dobson was released from the Luzerne County prison in Wilkes-Barre on $20,000 unsecured bail on Monday, following a request for a bail reduction during a preliminary hearing in Luzerne County Central Court on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude officer, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and driving under the influence, two counts, according to court filings.

Dobson, who waived the charges to Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas, had been held on $20,000 monetary bail following his arrest Nov. 9.
