Tamaqua’s Veterans Day Parade is Saturday

The annual Veterans Day Parade starts at 10 a.m. Saturday from the 900 block of East Broad Street in Tamaqua, which was recently selected by the Veterans Day National Committee as a regional site for a Veterans Day commemoration.

The parade is organized by the American Legion CH Berry Post 173 of Tamaqua and special guests will be on hand to celebrate the national honor.

Earlier this year, the post nominated Tamaqua for a Regional Site designation based on the parade and the activities undertaken by the community to commemorate Veterans Day.

In October, it learned that Tamaqua and the post was chosen as one of 66 regional sites across the nation.

“This is a great honor that we wish to share with you because in - part your activities during and around Veterans Day were submitted within our nomination to show how Veterans Day is more than just a Parade for Tamaqua - it is an ongoing effort where our community supports our veterans and our veterans support our community,” the Legion wrote in letters to groups and organizations that play a role in honoring and recognizing veterans.

The groups, which include the Tamaqua Area School District, Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and St. Luke’s Miners Campus, will be recognized at the post home at the conclusion of the parade.

Also at that time, a presentation of the Veterans Day National Committee Certificate will be held on behalf of the Legion Post and shared with the borough and community partners.

As for the parade, it will feature local veterans, veterans groups and a number of organizations.

The Pennsylvania National Guard will send two troops and a vehicle to the parade, and the Legion Riders from Cressona are planning to attend.

On the American Legion side, Pennsylvania Department of Legion Eastern Section Commander Harry Hause will march or ride in the parade, as well as District 13 Commander Charlie Hazzard.

The parade will travel along Broad Street (Route 209) and end with a ceremony at the Legion’s 206 W. Broad St. post home. The public is invited.
