Crews respond to Nesquehoning fire

Crews from several fire companies battled a fire at 333 W. Catawissa St. in Nesquehoning Wednesday morning.

The fire was reported by a passing firefighter just after 7 a.m. He along with several others reported smoke showing from under the eaves of the roof of the home.

All three Nesquehoning companies were on scene and the fire was quickly contained. Jim Thorpe, Lansford and Weatherly fire companies, as well as Nesquehoning police and Lehighton Ambulance also responded. Nesquehoning fire police provided traffic control.

Police Chief Michael Weaver said that a neighbor in 331 W. Catawissa was home and needed to be helped out of the house.

One person was also taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Weaver said.

Neighbors reported that the structure is one of three apartments in the double home.

The street was closed for approximately two hours.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, Nesquehoning Hose Company fire Chief John McArdle said.
